It’s time for the government to tighten its belt

To the editor:
Here we go again. It’s time to hose the property owners — higher property taxes, higher water bills, higher trash collection bills.
Where are some offsetting cuts so that the size of the local government structure is in proportion to the available funds? How about trying to live within our means?
Perish the thought of any government layoffs, pay cuts or budget cuts! We keep unneeded facilities open due to sentimentality.
If Suffolk is such a highly visible growth area, where is all the additional tax revenue? If the good times aren’t as good as they once were, this should mean some governmental belt-tightening.
The private sector is becoming a bit tired of supporting a top-heavy government structure. Those in government need to wake up before the next election if they want to remain in office.
