HAMPTON — Jordan Wood’s quest for the Pro Series title comes to fruition this Saturday as Arena Racing Hampton Roads brings down the curtain on its 2010-11 campaign with the Snap-on Tools 200 to benefit the Mary Kay Ash Foundation at the Hampton Coliseum.
Doors open at 6 p.m. for the pre-race pit party, a prime opportunity for fans to meet the drivers and get an up-close look at the cars. Following opening ceremonies, racing gets under way at 7. Drivers will also be available to meet fans on the concourse at the end of the program.
Entering Saturday’s season-ender, Wood holds a 26-point lead over Scott Prillaman in the chase for the $10,000 Pro Series championship. Factoring in the two dropped races, Wood enjoys a commanding 18-point edge. In fact, he could watch this weekend’s finale from the sidelines, take that as one of his two drops, and still be assured of taking the crown.
After this Saturday’s event, each driver’s two worst finishes (or missed events) will be dropped from consideration before the final standings are tabulated. Events from which a driver was disqualified may not be dropped.
Only a shocking development, mainly a disqualification, could derail Wood’s title run, so don’t expect the No. 02 Affordable Transmissions team to engage in much “envelope-pushing,” rules-wise, on Saturday.
Like Wood, Youth Series leader Connor Hall can also enjoy something of a coronation this weekend. Hall holds a 15-point lead over Cullen Roberts, who solidified his grip on the runner-up spot with a win last Saturday.
Tickets are $11.50 for adults. When purchased at the Coliseum box office, each regularly-priced adult ticket also includes one free kids (3-12) ticket. Additional kids tickets are $6.50. Military personnel (with ID), senior citizens (65+, with ID) and students (13-18) receive a $2 discount off the adult ticket price.
