Clarence James Mudge Sr.

Clarence “C.J.” James Mudge Sr., 88, of Suffolk, Va., passed away March 26, 2011. He was born in Lorain, Ohio, the son of the late Quincey C. and Nina Caywood Mudge. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie Lucille Mudge and son, Clarence James “Jim” Mudge Jr. C.J. retired as a Chief Boatswain’s Mate from the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II, the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam. He was a member of CrossPointe Free Will Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Nansemond Masonic Lodge No. 77, Past Master of the Harmony Lodge No. 149; and member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
C.J. is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl J. and Marcus W. Zimmerman II, of Ivor, Va.; daughter-in-law, Wanda Mudge, of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandson, Bryan Beamon and fiancée, Melissa Reeves, and her daughter, Helena Reeves; great-grandson, David Beamon; brothers, Harold Mudge, of Ohio, and William C. Mudge, of Oregon.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 2 p.m. at CrossPointe Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. David Sexton officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery. Friends may join the family for a time of visitation Tuesday night from 7 to 8 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory. Masonic rites will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night prior to the visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad, P.O.
