King’s Fork’s softball team rallied for a walk-off win for the second time in four victories this season, fighting back from a 10-2 deficit to visiting Lakeland for a 13-12 win Tuesday evening at KF.
“I don’t know what to say anymore,” said King’s Fork head coach Richard Froemel. The Lady Bulldogs (4-0, 3-0) have 16 regular season games remaining.
Kristin Moore’s fourth single of the game drove in Megan Blythe from second with one out in the home half of the seventh to complete the victory. Blythe’s run was the 11th Lady Bulldog tally in the closing three innings.
“It’s true what they say – hitting is contagious,” Froemel said.
“Each girls has the potential to do what they did, that goes for in the field or at the plate, it just takes one or two things to go right for us to get everyone going,” Froemel said.
Lakeland (0-3) came into game looking for its first win against unbeaten King’s Fork and the Lady Cavaliers dominated most of the way.
The Lady Cavaliers rolled to a huge lead with some long ball and some small ball.
A fake bunt and double-steal set up Mary Ellis to come in from third on a wild pitch for the first run of the game in the Lakeland second.
A few hitters later, Crystal Treat smashed a three-run homer over the left-center field fence to give Lakeland a 5-0 lead.
In the Lakeland fourth, Vici Treat homered to straightaway center for a two-run blast as part of a four-run Lakeland rally to move ahead 9-2. Lakeland made it 10-2 with a run in the fifth.
King’s Fork’s comeback started in the bottom of the fifth and each rally in the next three innings was sparked by Lady Bulldog leadoff hitter Autumn Vick.
Vick led off the fifth with a double and came in to score, along with Jennifer Delucia, on a single by Moore to make it 10-4. Monica Logwood added a two-RBI single with two outs in the frame to make Lakeland’s margin 10-7.
KF’s sixth started at the top of the order. The first four Lady Bulldogs, Vick, Blythe, Delucia and Moore hit singles and all eventually scored, closing Lakeland’s lead to 12-11.
With one out in the KF seventh, Vick walked and stole second on the first pitch to Blythe. Blythe roped the next pitch to left for an RBI double to tie the game. Moore’s sharp hit into right field scored Blythe without a play at the plate.
For the Lady Cavalier offense, Crystal Treat went 5-for-5 with four RBI. Jaclyn Wood and Combs had three hits each.
For the Lady Bulldogs, who’ve scored 41 runs in their last three games, Moore was 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs in KF’s clean-up spot. Vick went 3-for-4 with three runs. Logwood was 2-for-3 with four RBI. Brittany Raynor allowed four runs, two earned, in 3.2 innings in relief to get the victory.
