James Arthur Pope, 79, of 2061 St. Raymonds Ave., Bronx, N.Y., died March 13, 2011, in New York. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late William Henry Pope and Inez Sears Pope.
He retired as an inspector with the U.S. Postal Service after 31 years. He served in the Korean War.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Ellen A. Pope, of Bronx, N.Y.; one daughter, Lovular Hunter (Kenneth), of Hampton, Va.; one brother, Elder Vernon Pope, of Hampton, Va.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 21, 2011, at Greater Sweet Beulah Holiness Church officiated by Suffragan Bishop Madison Copeland. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 41 Michaels Woods Drive, Hampton, Va., on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. Crocker Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
