Women’s retreat will encourage quiet time

Sometimes, you just need to get away from it all.

Participants at the women’s retreat at Suffolk Presbyterian Church this month are encouraged to bring their Bible, a candle, a journal and other items that help them relax.

That’s the idea behind an upcoming women’s retreat that will be held at Suffolk Presbyterian Church on March 19. It is open to the community, and RSVPs are required by March 16.

“It’s really just a time to get away for a while,” said Lou Ventura, who organized the retreat as part of her seminary class on women in ministry. “We just get so tied up in so much stuff for everybody else, there’s really no time to just be yourself.”

The retreat will include lunch and guest speaker Ann Dartt, a professional coach and organizer.

“One of the things she’s going to talk about is de-cluttering your life and allowing yourself to make room for God,” Ventura said.

The retreat also will include guided meditation and quiet time, Ventura said.

“I think that women need to have a place to go to get their thoughts together,” she said. “We’re going to have some time just to be quiet and think about things in your life.”

Ventura said she also will set up stations where participants can do individual exercises to clear their mind before the retreat begins.

“It’s a way for you to clear the stuff that’s going on in your head so you can focus,” Ventura said. “To experience God through other people, that’s a real rejuvenator for me.”

The retreat is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 19 at the church, 410 N. Broad St. The cost is $8 for lunch. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably and bring their Bible, journal, favorite pen, favorite coffee mug or teacup, and anything else that makes them comfortable, like a pillow or blanket to sit on, a prayer shawl, a candle or other item.

To RSVP, call 373-2781 by March 16. Ventura encourages people to RSVP as soon as possible.
