A week after adding two more Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools swimming titles to her Lady Saint swimming career, junior Gabrielle Bishop won two individual state championships at the VISAA State Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday in Christiansburg.
Bishop made it six state titles in the last three years, winning the 100 butterfly and the 100 freestyle.
Bishop smashed her own record for a VISAA (Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association) State Championship record, going from 51.64 to 51.06. Bishop’s best time this season in a 100 free race is 50.60. She won Saturday’s final in a relative blowout, by 1.33 seconds over the field.
The title in the 100 butterfly is her first state title in a butterfly event.
A swimmer can enter a maximum of two individual events in the state meet, meaning Bishop is a perfect 6-for-6 at the state meet since her freshman season.
The Lady Saints finished ninth as a team in the championships. NSA’s boys team, which finished second in the Tidewater Conference for its best conference placement in at least a decade, finished 17th.
