Sheriff’s deputies in Davidson County received calls of shots fired on Sunday about 2:21 a.m., according to a media release from Sheriff David Grice.

Deputies arrived at the address on Riverview Boulevard in Davidson to find that neighbor Lee Boles, who had been walking his dog, had been shot three times. They soon found that Porter allegedly had taken his ex-wife, Robin Porter, and two daughters, ages 9 and 11, hostage inside the home.

Deputies established phone contact with Porter and began negotiations, according to the media release. After what Grice called “intense” negotiations, the two girls were released at 5:35 a.m. and their mother at 6:45 a.m., Grice said in the release.

After the standoff had lasted more than six hours, Porter surrendered about 8:50 a.m., Grice said.

Deputies recovered an AK-47 assault rifle with a large drum magazine, a .38-caliber revolver, a .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun and three other semi-automatic weapons, Grice added.

Porter received treatment for a small cut on his wrist, the press release said. During the incident, Porter allegedly threatened to shoot deputies and himself, the release said.

During booking and processing, Porter allegedly attempted to overpower a sheriff’s deputy and gain control of his firearm. However, he was unsuccessful and was subdued without further incident, Grice said.

During the initial assault on Boles, the neighbor’s home and vehicles also were hit with bullets, Grice said.

Fox 8 News in North Carolina reported Boles was scheduled to have surgery on his arm. They also said a judge set a $10 million bond for Porter during a Monday court appearance.

He is charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of first-degree burglary, one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, three counts of second-degree kidnapping, violation of a Virginia domestic violence order, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling, assault on a government official, assault on a female, communicating threats and two counts of injury to personal property.
