CARRSVILLE — Mabel Forehand Byrum, 88, widow of Edwin Lynn Byrum, died Dec. 14, 2010 at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was born in Edenton, N.C., a daughter of the late Gurney D. and Nora Peele Forehand, and was predeceased by three sisters and three brothers, Josie F. Goodwin, Alethia F. Wills, Paige F. Willies, Gurney D. Forehand Jr., James A. Forehand, and D.C. Forehand. Mrs. Byrum was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Ida Myrth DeJarnette and husband, Bryant, of Carrsville; two grandchildren, Lynnette D. Mitchem and husband, Mike, of Mathews County, and Jennifer D. Rose and husband, John, of Suffolk; three great-grandchildren, Lauren E. Mitchem, Peyton Rose and Bryce Rose; one sister, Louise F. Copeland, of Edenton, N.C.; and a sister-in-law, Eva Mae Forehand.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard L. Peerey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Ida and Bryant DeJarnette, 29365 Freeman Drive, Carrsville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beaver Dam Baptist Church, 3593 Carrsville Highway, Franklin, VA 23851.
