Two tractor-trailer accidents on Monday resulted in the truck drivers being charged and kept traffic tied up for hours.
An accident at the intersection of Holland Road and Manning Bridge Road in the afternoon occurred when the driver of a tractor-trailer heading east on Holland Road ran the red light and struck a vehicle turning left onto Manning Bridge Road from westbound Holland Road.
The tractor-trailer ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the embankment in front of the 7-Eleven store, according to city spokeswoman Debbie George. The driver of the vehicle that was struck was taken to the hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. The truck driver was charged with reckless driving.
A separate accident on Hosier Road occurred at 2:30 p.m. Monday and had the road blocked until Tuesday morning while crews unloaded the truck’s cargo.
That tractor-trailer was headed south on Hosier Road north of Whitemarsh Road when it ran off the roadway to the right, struck a ditch and overturned. Charges of failing to maintain proper control are pending against the driver.
The road was closed until after 7 a.m. Tuesday, George said.
