Parr defeats Copeland

Councilman Charles Parr successfully won election to his second term on City Council’s Suffolk borough seat, fending off a challenge from former planning commissioner Alvin Copeland.
Parr, a funeral home operator, was first elected to the council in 2006. He is the city’s liaison to the Economic Development Authority and Western Tidewater Regional Jail Authority.
He said he was seeking re-election to get some more projects finished.
Copeland had decried Parr’s approval of the controversial CenterPoint project on U.S. Route 58.
