Varney will ‘bring back high standards’

To the editor:
It is so obvious where Suffolk is headed. Unless we clean house on Nov. 2, it is going to be another four years of “You continue to line my pockets, and I’ll continue to line yours.”
It is really hard to listen to politicians who obviously think the citizens of this city are completely incompetent, incoherent and incapable of seeing through their mindless rhetoric.
My primary concern is for those council members (and we all know who they are without calling names) who appear to, along with the Mayor, monopolize the vote for their own personal gain and interests.
In my opinion, the last four years have been a total embarrassment to this city. What has been gained appears to have benefitted the councilmen involved.
Does it seem strange that Gardy, Parr and Brown all received $1,000 in political donations from the Tidewater Builders Association in Chesapeake? Why are Chesapeake builders so interested in supporting their campaigns? Is this another case of “You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours”? It certainly appears that way to the average citizen.
It is imperative that we break up this monopoly, put some honest individuals like J.B. Varney in place and feel confident that our city will be brought back to high standards.
