Haunts arrive at Sleepy Hole Park

Folks who get near Sleepy Hole Park next Friday should be prepared for a fright.
“They may see a ghost or two, or some zombies,” said Lori Carter, a Suffolk Parks and Recreation employee and resident expert in the “Legends of Sleepy Hole.”
The event will be held Oct. 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. A haunted hayride will thrill visitors who pay $5 each — a portion of which benefits the city’s United Way campaign.
“It’s an event that we’ve been thinking about,” Carter said. “We have the opportunity to do it and also to benefit our campaign for United Way.”
The haunted hayride will take about 15 minutes to complete, Carter said. The trail winds through a path in the woods past all sorts of surprises and scares.
The hayride is only for visitors age 10 and up, but there will be a fun area for children to enjoy.
The city also is looking for volunteers to help with parking and act as characters in the haunted forest. Those interested can call 514-7267 or 514-7268.
“I hope that it’s a great success, and I hope it’s something we can do for many years to come,” Carter said.
