A Suffolk man has been charged with six felony counts after an incident early Sunday morning in which two other men were shot.
Jimmie L. Belcher, 49, of the 200 block of Duke Street, has been charged with two counts of malicious wounding, two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony and two counts of shoot, cut stab or wound, according to Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George.
Just after 1 a.m., police were called to the 300 block of Ben Street for a reported shooting. When they arrived, they found one victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. That victim was flown by Nightingale helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, George stated in a press release.
A second victim went to police headquarters with a gunshot wound to the arm looking for help. He was transported to Sentara Obici Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, George said, Belcher had approached officers on Mt. Horeb Street, telling them he had been visiting a friend on Ben Street when two subjects he did not know grabbed him. He also said he had fired several rounds with his revolver, according to George, who noted that an investigation had revealed that there may have been a dispute over money between the parties.
Belcher is being held without bond at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail. The victim with the chest wound remained in serious condition at Sentara Norfolk General on Sunday afternoon, George stated.
