The Suffolk Police Department and other local agencies are taking part in a statewide prescription drug take-back day on Saturday.
People are encouraged to bring their unwanted or unused prescription drugs to either Suffolk Walmart location between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Suffolk Police investigators will be on hand to collect the items.
The national take-back day provides a unified opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for destruction.
Controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter substances may be turned in. No questions or requests for identification will be made.
Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container. If an original container is submitted, remove any identifying information from the prescription label.
All solid dosage pharmaceutical product and liquids in consumer containers may be accepted.
Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container.
Intravenous solutions and syringes will not be accepted due to the potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens.
