A 27-year-old man is in the hospital with serious injuries and his 21-year-old girlfriend is in jail following an altercation Sunday morning that police say ended with her running him down in her vehicle.
Shannon M. Goldston of the 2500 block of E. Washington Street has been charged with malicious wounding, hit and run with property damage, driving a motor vehicle with a suspended or revoked license and reckless driving, according to Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George.
George said in a press release on Sunday that police were called to respond to an accident between an auto and a pedestrian at about 8:30 a.m. on E. Washington Street at 9th Street.
When they arrived on the scene, police found George Gates Jr. suffering from serious injuries. He was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital via Nightingale helicopter.
Witnesses told police that Goldston had hit Gates, according to Debbie George, and they described the vehicle that she was driving, also helping police to find Goldston, who was arrested later on Sunday morning.
Police allege that Goldston hit Gates intentionally during a domestic argument, George stated in the press release.
The suspect is being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
