Nansemond River and William and Mary alum Greg Sexton hit a three-run homer and drove in a season-high four runs Thursday as his Charlotte Stone Crabs (Tampa Bay) defeated the Fort Myers Miracle (Minnesota) 8-4 in a Florida State League (single-A) game.
Sexton hit his home run, a drive over Charlotte’s leftfield fence, during a four-run bottom of the first inning. It was Sexton’s third homer of the season.
Sexton, a third baseman, has split time with Charlotte and double-A Montgomery this season. With the Stone Crabs, he’s hitting .290 with 32 RBI and 14 doubles in 73 games.
This is Sexton’s fourth season in the Tampa Bay farm system after being drafted following his senior year at William and Mary.
Charlotte is 23-24 in the second half of the Florida State League season after winning its division in the first half.
