About 10 homes in the area of the intersection of Mahan and Church streets have been evacuated after a contractor struck a gas line Monday morning.

The accident took place at 8:50 a.m., and the resulting leak has closed Mahan, Church and Prentis streets.

No injuries had been reported at 10 a.m.
