Joyce Beatrice Cross, 63, of 815 McKinley Ave., Suffolk, Va., passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Sentara Nursing Center in Portsmouth, Va. She was a native of Halifax, N.C. and the daughter of the late Richard L. and Ruth M. Rhodes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie J. Cross.
She graduated from Paul D. Camp Community College with an A.S. degree in computer information systems. She retired from Sentara Obici Hospital as a computer technician. She was a member of St. Mark’s AME Zion Church and its Fellowship Choir, Usher Board and culinary staff. She was president of the Connectional Lay Council – Virginia Conference, Newport News District.
She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, LaToya C. Younger (Garrick), of Woodbridge, Va.; one son, Wesley T. McCord (Barbara), of Detroit, Mich.; two sisters, Iris R. Baker and Linda R. Stevenson, both of Suffolk; three brothers, James L. Rhodes, Richard L. Rhodes Jr., both of Suffolk, and Clarence M. Rhodes, of Junchon City, Kan.; two grandchildren, Gabrielle and Monte; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010 at St. Mark AME Zion Church, 817 McKinley Ave., Suffolk officiated by the Rev. Willmers Williams.
