Martha Savage

Martha Moore Savage, 93, of 508 Park Road, Suffolk, Va., died Tuesday, June 1, 2010.
A native of Chuckatuck, Va., she was the daughter of the late William Charles Moore and Florence Ligon Moore. Matsie was predeceased by her husband, William Richard Savage Jr.; three sisters, Dorothy Moore Johnson, Marietta Moore Everett and Florence Moore Umphlette; and two brothers, Alexander Moore and William Charles Moore Jr.
Mrs. Savage was an active member of Suffolk Christian Church for more than 60 years, where she served on numerous committees and boards and was a teacher in Sunday school. She was a member and past president of the Sans Souci Literary Club and member and past president of the Riverview Garden Club. Mrs. Savage served 10 years as a member of the Suffolk Beautification Commission. She was a graduate of Chuckatuck High School and attended Longwood University. She was a teacher with Nansemond County Schools.
Matsie was a devoted and loving wife and mother. She was a prolific note writer, keeping
up a large correspondence with family and friends.
Survivors include two sons, William Richard Savage III and Thomas Moore Savage and his wife, Virginia Lewis Savage; a daughter, Martha Ligon Savage; three grandchildren, William Richard Savage IV, Charles Steel Savage and his wife, Jennifer Parker Savage, and Stephanie Lewis Savage; and one great-granddaughter, Kelly Anne Savage; one sister, Addie Rawles Moore Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Michael D. Halley at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, VA 23434 on Friday, June 4 at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, 110 W.
