A grand jury on Wednesday issued an indictment against a suspect in a 4-year-old arson case.

The Suffolk Fire and Rescue Office of the Fire Marshall arrested Ronald N. Steward Sr., 39, in connection with a March 2006 fire in a vacant apartment at Hoffler Apartments.

The fire did not injure anyone, but caused about $23,000 in damage.

Recently, fire investigator Pam King received a tip on the case and was able to pinpoint Steward as a suspect, according to Suffolk spokesperson Debbie George.

The indictment for burning or destroying a building was served on Steward Thursday at Western Tidewater Regional Jail, where he is an inmate on unrelated charges.

The grand jury issued 109 indictments against 47 suspects on Wednesday:

Milton Lowell Carr — assault and battery of a law enforcement officer

Karel Donnell Churchill — possession of marijuana with intent to distribute – more than ½ ounce, possession of cocaine

Alton Coats — possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, subsequent offense
