Please don’t close Robertson

To the editor:
I’m writing this letter as a concerned parent of two children who will be educated in the Suffolk Public School system. Our son is currently a fifth-grade honor roll student at Robertson Elementary School in Whaleyville. Our daughter will be starting kindergarten next year, but now we are unsure where she will have to go.
If the city closes Robertson Elementary School, the nearest school will be more than 10 miles farther away, which adds a lot of time to a bus route. In addition to a long bus ride, she will be starting her education in overcrowded classrooms.
If everyone reading this right now would call or contact their city council members and ask them to think twice about closing schools, maybe this will a make a difference.
We would like to see Robertson remain open until a new school is built, which is slated for 2013.
