Charles Freeman Jr.

Charles Leon “Bootsey” Freeman, Jr., 76, the 100 block of North Ninth Street, passed away December 18, 2009. He was a native of Windsor, NC. He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School. He retired from the U. S. Army as a Staff Sgt. in 1973 after 20 years of service. He served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart and the Army Air Corps Medal of Recognition. He was a Christian.
Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. Freeman, Sr. and Fannie G. Freeman and a brother, Garris Freeman, Sr. Surviving to cherish his memory are a son, Gerald Freeman of Suffolk; a stepdaughter, Cheyenne Pinkston of Talberton, GA; three sisters, Charlene Freeman-Coker, Joyce Stagg (Earnest) and Sandra Paul, all of Suffolk; three grandchildren and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:00 Noon Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Crocker Funeral Home, officiated by Bishop Madison G. Copeland. Interment will follow at the Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, 111 North Ninth Street. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
