‘Rapid response’ starts Monday

Opportunity Inc. and the Virginia Employment Commission will hold “rapid response” briefings on Monday in the International Paper Performance Development Center at 7 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 3:45 p.m. for employees affected by the plant closure who are terminating on Dec. 31. Rapid response briefings for those with termination dates in 2010 will be held at a later date.
At the meetings, employees will be briefed on unemployment, job search and training benefits to which they are entitled. They will be provided information on how to access these and other services through the OppInc One Stop workforce Centers, Virginia Employment Commission and a special on-site Transition Center.
The Transition Center, which also opens Monday, will be located in Training Center Room No. 1 in the Human Resource building. Hours of operation will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Center will be staffed by various organizations, including Opportunity Inc. and the Virginia Employment Commission, and it will provide IP employees and their families with transitional services including resume writing assistance, interviewing skills training, resources for job skills training and education, financial counseling, information on unemployment insurance and Social Security benefit and job search assistance and information resources.
