Ruby Pierce

Ruby Fowler Pierce, 80, died Nov. 8, 2009, at Riverside Convalescent Center, Smithfield.
Born in Isle of Wight County, she was the daughter of the late Ruth S. and Hershey Nepolian Fowler Sr. and widow of Isaac Lyman Pierce Jr. She was preceded in death by 12 siblings, she being the youngest of 13.
In 1950 Mrs. Pierce graduated from the Lakeview Hospital Nursing School. She was a Registered Nurse and retired from the Suffolk Public Schools as one of the first nurses in the Virginia Public School system. She was formerly employed by Lakeview Clinic, where she worked for Dr. J. E. Rawls. Mrs. Pierce was a member of West End Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters and their husbands, Carolyn P. and Chris Taylor of Greenville, N.C., Patricia P. and Marty Worrell of Suffolk; son and his wife, Lynn Keith and Charlotte Pierce of Chesapeake; grandchildren, Jeff and wife, Leslie, Justin, Josh, Pierce, Brandon, and Brittany.
A funeral will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by the Rev. T.F. Irby and Timothy W. Rawls, with burial in Western Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
