Kevin J. Darden, 50, of 1306 Sierra Drive, Suffolk, Va., died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Norfolk, Va. and the son of the late Joel and Marion B. Darden. He was also predeceased by his sister, Doris Oats; brother, Keith Darden; and a special niece, Sandra Basnight.
He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk and attended Norfolk State University. He was a member of St. Mark United Church of Christ.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Clara M. Darden; three daughters, Alicia Moore, of Virginia Beach, Va., Angelia Gilchrist (Donald), of Suffolk, and Shaherah Perry (Walter), of Baltimore, Md.; one son, Brian D. Porter (Joy), of Chesapeake, Va.; five grandchildren, a devoted grandson, Breon D. Porter, one great-grandchild; two sisters, Loretta Brazell and Deloris Olds, both of Norfolk, Va.; a brother, Walter Brazell, of Chesapeake; aunt, Marilyn West; uncles, Alton Boone (Francie) and Walter Boone (Thelma); a devoted mother-in-law, Marion B. Barnes; sisters-in-law, Patricia Brazell, Gloria Scott, Cynthia McCoy, Brenda Williams and Annette Richardson; brothers-in-law, Earl Williams, Arthur Richardson and Michael Copeland (Regina); several nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of devoted friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at St. Mark United Church of Christ, 521 Obendorfer Road, Berkley area of Norfolk, Va., officiated by Elder Annette Richardson. The remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at 1306 Sierra Drive, Suffolk.
