James T. Brown entered into eternal rest Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009. Upon returning from the U.S. Navy, he worked in New Jersey before making Hampton, Va. his home. After more than 20 years of service, he retired from the city of Hampton as a diesel mechanic.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dora, grandson Linnell Edwards, and several brothers and sisters. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children: the Rev. Easter Edwards, of Chesapeake, Va., the Rev. Gladys Webb-Searcy (John), of Delray Beach, Fla., Naida Sweat (Glenn), of Chesapeake, Va., seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a devoted brother, Clarence (Sumi) Marshall, two sisters, Jeanette Jenkins and Ophelia McCray, a special niece, Elsie Johnson, of New Jersey, numerous relatives, and caring friends.
A viewing will be held on Thursday at Corprew Funeral Home, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, Va. The home going service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16 at New Hope Baptist Church, 1317 Gust Lane, Chesapeake, VA. 757-487-4134. Interment will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
