Council needs help battling illiteracy

We read about the Race for Literary and your Oct. 3 editorial, “Fight back against illiteracy,” with gratitude and enthusiasm. Your participation and the publicity you thereby generate are great ways to support and highlight the critical problem of adult illiteracy in Suffolk.
Having been involved with teaching adults to read for more than 20 years, The Suffolk Literacy Council knows the significant difference reading makes for all ages.
We also have experienced first-hand the deep satisfaction that comes when an illiterate adult learns to read by the nationally recognized Laubach method one-on-one tutoring program.
Because the Literacy Council is always in need of tutors, we encourage any who would like the opportunity to help transform another’s life through the gift of reading to visit our web site at www.Literacy4Suffolk.org, to call us at 415-7733 or to email us at suffolkliteracy@live.com.
Thank you so much for your interest and involvement with this critical problem in Suffolk.
