Suffolk police have arrested three teenagers and have lodged multiple charges against each in connection with what they are calling “random assaults” on at least two victims.
The teens are charged with attempted malicious wounding, assault and battery and conspiracy to commit a felony, said Debbie George, a spokeswoman for the city.
On July 11, a 35-year-old man was riding a bicycle in the 100 block of Pitchkettle Road, when some people traveling in a vehicle about 45 miles per hour stuck a broomstick out of the window and hit the man on the head. The man’s helmet was damaged, and he suffered minor injuries.
On July 16, a 39-year-old man was riding a bicycle in the 2000 block of Pitchkettle Road, when some people drove by and threw coins at the man. He was not injured.
The Suffolk Police Department Neighborhood Enforcement Team identified two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old as the people who committed the crimes.
When the officers looked at the teens’ MySpace pages, they found photos of them smoking a substance believed to be marijuana. Smoking devices found in the home of one of the suspects have been sent to the lab for testing.
Police believe the trio have committed other similar incidents, but they have been unable to locate the other victims. Call 514-7860 if you know of any similar incidents.
All three children are being detained at Tidewater Detention Home in Chesapeake.
