Epandus Hughes

Epandus “Pat” Hughes, of 320 Bullock St., Suffolk, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 in Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Jackson, N.C. and the son of the late Rufus Hughes and Rosa Purrington Sparks.
He retired from Planters Peanut Company. He was a former member of Tabernacle Christian Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory a foster son, Anthony “Champ” Scott, of Suffolk; three uncles, Erastus Purrington, Clifton Purrington Sr., both of Suffolk, and Presley Purrington Sr. (Inez), of Queens, N.Y.; two aunts, Minnie Hughes, of Newport News, Va., and Roberta Anderson (Thomas), of Queens, N.Y.; devoted cousins, Cynthia Scott and Mavis Mitchell; a devoted friend, James Gibbons; and a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. officiated by Bishop Madison Copeland. Interment will be held in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
