Charlie Earl Johnson, 51, of 619 Ashley Ave., Suffolk, passed away March 29, 2009 in Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and was preceded in death by his father, James R. Johnson. He was a member of Balm of Gilead Missionary Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Betty Johnson; two daughters, Tabathia Johnson and Shaquana Johnson, of Suffolk; his mother, Barbara H. Johnson; three granddaughters, Ki’yonna Elliott, Varia Hughes and A’niyah Hughes; four sisters, Brenda Johnson, of Suffolk, Barbara Goodman (Darryl), of Corapeake, N.C., Della Eley (Frank) and Lisa Johnson, of Suffolk; five brothers, Clifton Johnson (Mary), William Johnson (Ruth), James Johnson, Curtis Johnson, and Milton Johnson, all of Suffolk; one aunt, two uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Balm of Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, 3731 Whitemarsh Road, Suffolk, officiated by the Rev. Charles Leavell.
