Casper Elisha Edmonds Sr., of 536 Chisholm Lane, Suffolk, died Friday, March 13, 2009 in Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County, Va., and the son of the late Elisha and Erma V. Edmonds.
He was a graduate of the 1971 class of John F. Kennedy High School and attended Virginia State College (University). He was currently employed as a mechanic at Waste Industries in Chesapeake, Va. He was an ASE Board Certified Truck Technician for more than 30 years. He was also a motor coach operator for Lassiter’s Bus Service, Ed & Sons Bus Co. and Tri-City Tours. Mr. Edmonds was a lifelong member of Healing Chapel Baptist Church and its Deacon’s Ministry, Superintendent of Sunday School, member of the Male Chorus, Men’s Fellowship and past Trustee Board member.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, LaVerne Edmonds; three daughters, Diedre’ A. Hicks, Shenica R. Edmonds and LaToya O. Edmonds, all of Suffolk; one son, Casper E. Edmonds Jr. (Michelle), of Suffolk; two grandchildren, Jonathan Hicks and Makenzye Edmonds; three brothers, Ronnie M. Edmonds Sr. (Christine), Joseph Milteer (Marva), and Donnie Edmonds; uncles and aunts, Cyrus Hedgepeth (Alberta), Amos Hedgepeth, Timothy Pelham and great-uncle Thurman Hedgepeth (Marie); nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of special friends.
A funeral will be held Saturday, 1 p.m. March 21, 2009 at Healing Chapel Baptist Church, 2375 Godwin Blvd. in Suffolk, officiated by the Rev. Morris Allmond Sr. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family of Mr. Edmonds would like to send a special invitation to the 1971 graduating class of J.F.K. High School. Special thanks to Dr. Barakat and Dr. Foreman of Lakeview Medical Center and the Medical Oncology staff at Sentara Obici Hospital. The family will be at 536 Chisholm Lane in Suffolk.
