Isaac “Buster” Rodgers Jr., 84, of the 200 block of North Lloyd Street, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. He was born on Jan. 11, 1925 to the late Isaac Rodgers Sr. and Alethia Rodgers in Suffolk, Va.
Isaac retired from Norfolk Naval Supply after 40 years of dedicated service and also ran Rodgers Grocery for more than 40 years.
Isaac leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Christine Rodgers; four daughters, Helen Haley (Joe), Gwendolyn Rodgers, Aletha “Trudy” Rodgers, Ashby and Jacqueline Rodgers; three sons, Johnny Rodgers (Ethel), Larry Veal (Denise) and Isaac Rodgers III (Elaine); 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sylvia Gwaltney (Cliff), Pearl Butts (Calvin) and Vivian Simpkins; one brother, Jerry Rodgers; and a host of other family and friends.
Mr. Rodgers will be on view from noon to 6 p.m. and the family will receive guests from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18 at the funeral home. Mr. Rodgers will lie in state at East End Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until the hour of service, Thursday, Feb. 19. A home going service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at East End Baptist Church. Interment will immediately follow at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
