Birdsong’s legacy is bigger than football

David Birdsong’s dedication to the Nansemond Suffolk Pop Warner league is admirable. He saw the need to develop future area high school football players and did something to meet that need.

Recognizing that the opportunity was there, Birdsong took the program on his shoulders and partnered with hundreds of volunteers through the past 13 years to create an exceptional Pop Warner football league.

What makes the NSPWF so special is the values that are taught along with the fundamentals of the game. The new NSPWF president, Steve Goldberg, said, “David always talks about (the organization’s motto) Pride, Respect, Love, Protect, Togetherness and that really is what the program’s about because of David.”

As a result, the NSPWF has developed and nurtured fine citizens for Suffolk and around the world. Birdsong’s work and devotion to the NSPWF has left a legacy not only on the football fields of our city, but within the hearts of the children who have gone through the program and learned from its leaders.
