Once again the early ray of the morning sun of Jan. 17, 2009 scattered its beams and the luminous light ray carried away our dear brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. Leon “Sheet Shaker” Pegram was a native of Suffolk, Va., and was the son of the late Johnny Gatling and Rebecca Weaver. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Leon attended Suffolk Public School and retired from Norfolk Navy Shipyard. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army.
He leaves to cherish his memories: two sisters, Evon Briggs and Velma Gates (George); one brother, Vernon Wilson (Peggy), all of Suffolk; beloved aunt, Daisy Watford; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and a host of friends.
A viewing will be on Thursday, Jan. 22 from noon to 7 p.m. at T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home Chapel. A service will be on Friday, Jan. 23 at noon in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Professional services by T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home.
