Kelvin Whitehurst Sr.

NORFOLK — Kelvin Evan Whitehurst Sr., “Hurst,” 46, of 1603 East Indian River Road passed away Jan. 8, 2009. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend.
Kelvin was a service technician at Verizon Communications and a 1981 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. He also attended Norfolk State University in the early 1980s, and was a member of East End Baptist Church in Suffolk.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanetta Lynne Whitehurst, and three sons, Kelvin Jr., Darius and Isaiah; his parents, Theodore and Ruth M. Whitehurst Sr.; siblings, Selena W. Frost (the late Ronald), Theodore Jr. (Kitty), Devonne, Ramona and Alton Whitehurst (Shawna). He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Orpah West; sister-in-law Cynthia Edwards (Alvin), brother-in-law Clarence West Jr., (Tanya), Milton Sawyer (Sparkle) and a host of nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ramon West; grandparents, Miles and Roxie Bell Whitehurst and Nathaniel and Marion Mitchell Sr.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at the East End Baptist Church, 523 East Main St., Suffolk, Va., with Dr. Mark A. Croston officiating. Viewing will be held at Riddick Funeral Home, 1225 Norview Ave. in Norfolk on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
