Don’t hesitate to take advantage of city programs

You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who could say there isn’t much to do in Suffolk. In fact, if you peruse the new Suffolk Parks and Recreation 2009 Winter Leisure Activity Guide — appropriately dubbed “Don’t hesitate….Recreate” — you’d find pages of activities, events and programs slated for the winter season.
Lakita Frazier, director of the Parks and Recreation department, opened the guide with a message inviting residents of Suffolk to enjoy some of the amenities the city provides, such as the abundant parks and the new programs being offered this year by Suffolk’s experienced park rangers. She mentions programs that will be available at the new recreation center in East Suffolk, which will be opening soon, as well as classes offered by the Suffolk museum.
If it’s athletics you’re interested in, the city has a comprehensive listing of leagues to include youth/teens and adults. There are after-school programs, camps and tennis opportunities directed toward all ages.
Indeed Suffolk is a great place to live and to play. If you missed it when it appeared in our paper, don’t worry, because you can access the guide online at www.suffolk.va.us/parks or by giving the parks and recreation department a call at 514-7250.
