A Christmas Day accident resulted in a damaged fire hydrant and power pole in the 8500 block of Crittenden Road.
Police were notified of the accident about 8:30 p.m., said city spokeswoman Debbie George.
“It appears that there was an accident, and the vehicle struck the fire hydrant,” George said.
Water from the fire hydrant flooded the road and caused the shoulder of the road to become soft, George said. A power pole on the side of the road began to lean because the ground surrounding it was oversaturated.
Suffolk Police, Suffolk Department of Public Utilities and Dominion Power responded to the scene. Power to the area had to be cut off so the pole could be resituated. The units cleared the scene about 3 a.m. Friday, George said.
