Gun buy-back set Saturday

The Chesapeake Police Department will hold a gun buy-back program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at two locations, including the Fourth Precinct office at 4765 Stationhouse Road in Western Branch.
The goal of the program is to reduce violent crime and take guns off the street by encouraging gun owners to voluntarily turn in their weapons.
Participants with qualifying weapons will receive a $100 gift card for each functioning handgun they turn in. Rifles, shotguns and ammunition will be accepted, but they do not qualify for the incentive.
The handguns must be taken to the buy-back location unloaded and in a clear container, such as a Ziploc bag. Any ammunition must be in a separate container.
