Blue Ridge 26, Nansemond-Suffolk 21

Codi Oliver’s 55-yard kickoff return for a touchdown made it 14-14 at halftime, then Josh Todd’s 35-yard interception return for a touchdown made it 26-21 Blue Ridge late in the third quarter, but that’s as close as NSA would get.

Blue Ridge also returned a kickoff and an interception for touchdowns. Blue Ridge managed 233 passing yards with only 28 rushing yards. The Saints gained 166 yards rushing to only 20 yards passing. J.R. Crowder led NSA on the ground with 24 carries, 101 yards and a touchdown.

NSA (5-4, 3-1) travels to Newport News to face Hampton Roads on Friday.

Indian River 30, Lakeland 0

At Lakeland

Indian River piled up 289 rushing yards and took a big step toward locking up a Division 5 playoff spot.

The Cavaliers were still without starting running back Cedric Johnson due to injury. Neil McKoy was 9-for-21 passing for 74 yards and three interceptions.

Lakeland (3-6, 3-5) closes its season with the task of playing at 9-0 Oscar Smith on Friday.

Hickory 35, Nansemond River 13

At Hickory

The Hawks avenged last season’s loss against the Warriors by jumping out to a 21-0 lead by the end of the first quarter on Friday night.

Steve Skinner was 12-for-23 passing for 122 yards and three interceptions. Willie Ponder had five catches for 73 yards and a touchdown for the Warriors. C.J. McGriff led Hickory (2-7, 2-6) with 23 rushes, 159 yards and two touchdowns.

Nansemond River (1-8, 0-8) hosts Great Bridge on Friday in its season finale.
