Bobbie Ann Green Proffitt passed away on Oct. 17, 2008 at her home in Lacey, Wash., surrounded by family, friends, and the thoughts and prayers of so many others.
She was born Aug. 26, 1933, in Suffolk, Va., to Clyde T. Sr. and Sarah Virginia Moody Green. She graduated from Suffolk High School in 1951. She met her future husband, Joseph L. Proffitt, while he was stationed at the Norfolk Navy Base. Bobbie and Joe were married on Sept. 4, 1953, in Suffolk. She lost the love and joy of her life when Joseph preceded her in death 11 years ago.
She started working as a bookkeeper for Beamons Department Store in Suffolk. She considered her family first, but continued part time bookkeeping and secretarial work off and on after they moved to the Lacey area, first for Proffitt’s Dept. Stores and then for the American Diabetes Association. She was a member of various charities such as the March of Dimes, American Diabetes Association, National MS Society, and many other local associations. She was a past member of the Olympia Women’s Club. Her greatest joy was her husband and raising her family of five children.
Surviving are her sons, William J. and Patricia Proffitt, Littlerock; David L. Proffitt, Lacey; Michael S. Proffitt, Lacey; and daughters, JoAnne Smith, Olympia; and Nancy J. and Michael Dunagan, Yelm, along with 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
