Leslie Carter Evans, 79, of Suffolk passed away on Sept. 19, 2008. A native of Gates County, N.C., he was the son of the late Jesse R. Evans and Fruzie Eure Evans. Carter retired after 25 years as produce manager at Belo’s Supermarket. He was a 50-year member of the Suffolk Masonic Lodge No. 30, Mt. Nebo Royal Arch Chapter No. 20; Khedive Shriners; Suffolk Shriner’s Club; Sinai No. 18 of the Order of the Eastern Star where he served 18 times as worthy patron. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church.
Carter is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas C. and Joan G. Evans, of Suffolk; a step-granddaughter, Carla J. Griggs, of Mt. Olive, N.C.; two sisters, Juliett E. Williams, of Winton, N.C., and Gloria E. Nichols, of Ahoskie, N.C.; two brothers, Clinton Evans, of Murfreesboro, N.C. and Ronald Evans, of Siler City, N.C.
A funeral service with Eastern Star rites will be held on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. at Parr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk with the Rev. Jonathan Palmer officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may join the family at the funeral home on Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. for visitation and at other times at 4868 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk.
