Bascom Carver

Bascom Y. (B.Y.) Carver, Jr., 82, Jacksonville, died Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Palm Garden Nursing Home. A memorial service, celebrating his life, was held on Tuesday, September 9 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Henson officiating.
He was born March 7, 1926 in Sanford, Florida, son of the late Bascom Y. Carver, Sr. and Evelyn Cochran Carver, and had resided in Jacksonville since 1960.
After graduating from Suffolk High School in Suffolk, Virginia, he began his railroad career with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and retired from CSX Railroad as Manager of Pricing after 41 years of service. He was an active member of Southside Baptist Church for many years, serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was also an avid tennis player.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sarah Ward Carver, a daughter, Laura Mauldin (Austin), Charlotte, N.C. and two sons, Ward Carver (Sylvia), Clarksville, TN and Mark Carver, St. Augustine, FL, a brother, John Carver (Fran), New Bern, NC and six grandchildren, Sarah, Whitney, Nathan, Warren, Vance and Morgan.
