Hattie Gillespie, 64, of 911 Battery Avenue, Suffolk, entered into eternal rest and peace on Nov. 13 in Sentara Obici Hospital. She was born in Suffolk and was preceded in death by her parents, Illinoise and Minnie Goodman-Jordan.

She was a registered nurse and retired in 2001 after 23 years of service. She received her Associate Degree from Bronx Community College, Bronx, N.Y. She was a member of Faith Temple Apostolic Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, John W. Gillespie; three daughters, Lillar R. Hayes, of Suffolk, Cheryl A. Holman-Cooper, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Crystal A. Pearson-Brookins, of Suffolk; five sons, Anthony A. Edwards, Willie Byron, William Byron, Arthur Johnson and Johnny Howard Jr., all of Suffolk; 18 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, in Faith Temple Apostolic Church. Interment will be in Missouri Baptist Church Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
