Seeing yellow

Well, it’s almost here — the first day of school.
Tuesday marks that day that children hate and parents love to see.
But it also marks a day that requires everybody to be on their toes.
While every day that school is in session is important, safety wise, the first one is perhaps the most important, and most dangerous.
It has been a long time since the children have gathered at the bus stops to catch the bus to and from school. They are not used to the rules and regulations yet.
They are children. They will be excited — some of them— on this day, and they will have a tendency to be less cognizant of their surroundings than they might be later in the year.
That’s where we all come in.
Be aware that Tuesday is the first day of school, and that the buses and the children will be out there.
Remember the rules of the road — especially about passing and not passing school buses.
Keep your eyes open around bus stops. Watch for those children to come darting out of anywhere, and be ready for that.
We all want the first day of school to be a fun and exciting one, not a tragic one.
