Mother Bernice M. Hill, 85, of the 1700 block of Pine Acres Lane, Suffolk, answered the call of the Almighty and entered into eternal rest and peace on Aug. 2, 2006 in Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. A native of Nansemond County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline A. Brinkley Scott and the widow of James Hill.
She was retired from Smithfield Packing Company after 27 years of service as a packer. She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Church of God In Christ, where she was Church Mother, President of the Pastor’s Aid Club and member of the Senior Choir and Kitchen Committee.
She leaves to cherish loving memories; six sons, Percy (Claudia) Hill, Milton (Linda) Hill, Willie (Ruby) Hill, James (Lora) Hill, all of Suffolk, John (Valerie) Hill of Hampton, and Melvin Hill of Suffolk; her special daughter, Nellie Spratley of Suffolk; eight sisters, Josephine Bradley, Alma Wooten, Pearline Fulgham, Kay Pittman, Mary Rice, Lillie Wellon, Erma Scott, and Rosa Goodman; five brothers, John (Felicia) Scott, Joe Henry Scott, William (Jeanie) Scott, the Rev. James (Pat) Scott, and Jackson Scott; 23 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Edward (Bertha) Hill; a sister-in-law, Leander Vann; and a host of other relatives and devoted friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006 in Mt. Lebanon COGIC, Hobson section of Suffolk, by Elder Larry Gray. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The body will be taken to the church at 10:30 a.m. The family will be at 1701 Pine Acres Lane.
