Janis Estelle Short

Early Sunday morning God dispatched his loving angels to call home our beloved Janis Estelle Short from labor to reward. She was born on Nov. 30, 1928 in Sussex County to the late William Mason and Maggie Hargrove.
A native of Waverly,
she attended Waverly Public Schools and was employed by Suffolk Public Schools for 30 years before retiring. She entered into holy matrimony to the late Herman L. Short
Sr. and to this union one son, the late Herman M. Short Jr. was born.
Janis was a member of ST. Paul RZUA for many years where she served as a Missionary.
Janis leaves behind to celebrate her life and cherish her memory grand daughter Luwiska Short; sister-in-law Henrietta Mason of Suffolk; nieces Jeanette Sumler (Darry) of Waverly, Edith Rogers- Ralph (Curtis), Kimberly Mountcastle, and Sarah Brigettes all of Suffolk, Barbara Mason of Washington, D.C., Glinda Vanpelt
(Lorenzo) of Georgia, and Ann Mason of Waverly; nephews Ronald Mountcastle (Charlotte) and Jethro Mason Jr, (Leandra) both of Suffolk, McLeza Mason of Smithfield, and Baron Mason of Waverly; 22 grand nieces and nephews and
a host of special
family and friends.
Ms. Short will be on view noon-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 14 at the funeral home. The family will receive visitors at 1006 Custis Road. A funeral will be held in her honor 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15 at ST. Paul RZUA, with the Rev. Foreman officiating. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will assemble at 10:15 a.m. at Custis Street for the funeral procession to the church.
