U. S. Junior Olympic Skills Competition at Chesapeake community centers

Local youth between the ages of eight and 13 have the opportunity to participate in the U. S. Junior Olympic Skills Competition presented by Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes.
This free grassroots program allows boys and girls, competing separately, the opportunity to showcase their athletic abilities.
The program is designed to encourage youth participation in sport while promoting sportsmanship.
The basketball portion of the Junior Olympic Skills Competition will be hosted by Chesapeake Parks and Recreation on Saturday, Mar. 18 at Camelot, Deep Creek, Great Bridge, Indian River, River Crest, South Norfolk and Western Branch Community Centers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Age groups are as follows: 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.
Participants may register the day of the event.
Champions from the local qualifying event will advance to one of the regional competitions across the country in hopes of advancing to the National Finals.
