BB gun vandals must be stopped
Published 12:00 am Tuesday, January 3, 2006
Somebody is going around parts of the city shooting out car windows with a BB gun.
The Suffolk Police are seeking the help of the city residents if finding this person or group of people and making sure they pay for their crimes.
Whoever is perpetrating this crime seems to have no regard for personal property or safety. Obviously they think what they are doing is fun and harmless.
Well, first of all it isn’t fun for the car owners who are having to shell out hundreds of dollars to replace the glass in their autos.
And as for harmless, fortunately so far it is. But what if the next time there is somebody in the car, say a child, and they are struck with the projectile? They could be seriously injured, and that injury would elevate the crime to a much more serious one.
Now we don’t expect whoever is doing this to be reading our newspaper. Chances are they can’t read much of anything if they are as ignorant as they are acting. But hopefully one of our readers will see this and the story on today’s front page and be able to help locate these offenders.
If you know anything about this crime, please call the Suffolk Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at 923-2195, or the crimestopper line at 1-800-LOCK-U-UP. You don’t have to give your name at either place, and if you use the latter number you may be in line for a cash reward.
We hope somebody steps forward, and steps forward soon before somebody is hurt.
