The News-Herald will be publishing its annual &uot;Santa Edition,&uot; on Christmas Day this year.

This special edition of the paper will be filled with Suffolk Children’s letters to Santa and is one of our larger, and best-read issues of the year.

It’s a great opportunity, too, for local businesses to send out Christmas greetings to their customers in the form of an ad. The deadline for submitting letters to Santa for publication is Dec. 10. Please send letters to: Santa, c/o Suffolk News-Herald, P.O. Box 1220, Suffolk, VA 23439. All letters will be published.

The deadline for placing a Christmas greeting ad is Dec. 16. You can contact our advertising department at 934-9607.

Things appear to be moving somewhat slowly on this year’s Cheer Fund campaign. Only about 20 percent of the $45,000 goal has been collected so far. Traditionally, between about now and Christmas is when the bulk of the funds come in, it nonetheless makes me a nervous wreck each year.

So much is riding on your support of the Cheer Fund. For more than 40 years, the Cheer Fund has been virtually the sole financial support of the Suffolk Toys for Tots program. Toys for Tots is dozens of volunteers who purchase, prepare and deliver quality toys to more than 2,000 poor children in our city. Please don’t let them down this year.
